Best Guy Card

  

Do you have a handy hubby?  I sure do!  I'm always amazed at the things he can fix.  I thought this card would be a great way to let him know how much I appreciate all he does around here...

I used the hammer and nails stamp from the "Every Little Bit" set.  But it doesn't have to stay little--I enlarged the stamped image to create a template for the big hammer. 

There's a lot of dimension on this card--did you notice the strip of recycled corrugated cardboard on it?

I stamped the nails from the hammer and nail image inside the O in WOW by masking the surrounding area.

Forever Young Card

I adored the "Forever Young" stamp set the minute I saw it in the new Idea Book & Catalog...so much that I had to use it before I even ordered it!  How did I do that?  I got online and downloaded the My Digital Studio file for "Forever Young"!  In just a few minutes I was printing out this super-sized version of the tree stamp to use on my card! 

The background was so easy.  I used a brayer to apply a quick (uneven) layer of Bashful Blue Classic Ink over the whole image.  Then I sponged the edges with Old Olive or Marina Mist Classic Ink.  The final step was adding the "A to Z" stamp in Marina Mist.

It turned out exactly the way I planned...:-)

Elegant Embossed Card

 
This is one of the cards featured in the "Out Here" magazine article.  They wanted to demonstrate the heat embossing technique. I love the white/Marina Mist combination...very elegant. And I haven't used torn edges in quite awhile--but they sure are making a comeback on my projects lately!

I took the boys to their school last night for "Friday Night Fever"  We had a great time!

I wish I had more time to work on their 70's outfits--but Matthew cracks me up in the mullet wig!

Joey didn't want to dance with me at first saying he was "too embarrassed"---but after a few songs he was shake-shake-shakin' his booty!

I'm Published!!

Exciting news--some of my cards have been published! 

Waaaay back in December, my friend, Julie Salva, called and asked me to provide some artwork for a magazine interview she was doing.

The article was for --of all places-- Tractor Supply Company!  They have a printed/online magazine called "Out There" and wanted to teach their readers about rubber stamping. 

The photography team (Mark and Leah) came out to Julie's house and we got to help them with the shots they needed.  It was really fun!

Here is the card Mark is taking a picture of:

It uses the "Take a Spin" stamp set and the Game Spinner Hands from the 2011 Occasions Mini Catalog.

A+ Pennant Card

I just cut apart the spinner wheel from the stamp set "Take a Spin" (2011 Occasions Mini Catalog - pg. 10 - Available Jan. 4th). 

We're enjoying a break from the freezing weather here in Tennessee today--supposed to get into the 60's!  Hope you all are staying warm....

Aviary Card

I enjoy using stamp sets that work well for many occasions.  The new "Aviary" set can be used for all kinds of cards---get well, friendship, thinking of you, birthday, thank you, etc.  

I dressed up the cages with black rhinestones from the  Black Flourish Designer Jewels    (Holiday Mini Catalog). This embellishment is so fun because you can use it from the package as a big swirl -or- cut it apart for great accents!

Here for You Card

I'm so happy to have Baja Breeze back in the Stampin' Up! color family.  I paired it with Early Espresso and Pear Pizzazz to create this elegant card for my last class. The new Vintage Wallpaper Embossing folder is so great--but wait 'til you see the folders in the upcoming Holiday Mini Catalog.  I promise to give you a preview this week!

Almost Artisan - Share #2

This "Get Whale Soon" card still makes me smile!  It's one of the cards I submitted for the SU Artisan Award contest and I needed something bright and whimsical.The inspiration for the card was the "Fox & Friends" stamp set.  I just stamped the whale on typing paper and then enlarged it on my copier to make the pattern for the denim.  I stuffed the fabric whale with some recycled foam to puff him out.

I had already embossed the white background when I realized it kinda looked like the spray from a whale....so I used Dazzling Diamonds and my Tempting Turquoise Marker to highlight part of the pattern.  I love it when SU products combine in unexpected ways!!

I put a circle of Window Sheet in the piece from the Styled Silver Hodgepodge Hardware to make it look more like glass in a ship's porthole.

Embossed Butterfly Card

I was using some stray pieces from my "Tailor Made" Simply Scrappin' Kit on a card and needed a big embellishment to finish it off.  My friend, Linda, had brought some embossed chipboard jewelry to class so I thought I'd try that technique. I cut the butterfly from chipboard on my Big Shot with the SU Beautiful Butterflies die.  After adding several layers of Glassy Glaze Embossing Powder I just stamped the butterfly with the swirl from "Wings of Friendship" on it before it cooled the last time. 

Like the aged look of the butterfly?  Check back tomorrow for a quick tutorial on that technique!

The end of school is always so busy.  Matthew got promoted to Bear Cub in Scouts.  Joey lost his other front top tooth and had his Kindergarten Program.  This school year has passed by entirely too quickly!

Royal Blog Tour 2010

Hello!  I sure hope you are having a fun and inspiring journey on the Royal Blog Tour today!

I'm Melany Watson and my castle is in the Nashville, Tennessee area.  There are always stamping projects in progress here....

I chose the stamp set "Garden Whimsy" (Item #113502) for my tour creations.  It's a fabulous set that always gets my attention in Spring.  And since the tour kicks off the release of the Stampin' Up! Summer Mini Catalog, I'm having fun pairing it with some great new products.  Each of my samples uses the new "Island Oasis" Designer Series Paper (pg 27).

Good-bye April, hello May!  I can't believe the kids will be out of school soon.  I'm sure looking forward to some pool time....

Aren't these little clear buttons the sweetest?  Take a peek at them in the new Mini (Bitty Buttons - pg 11)--they come in four shapes AND there are coordinating punches! 

I used "My Digital Studio" for the text.  It's an easy way to add custom greetings to your project! Want to know how I changed the Scallop Oval Frame Sizzix die?  Come back after the tour ends and I'll show you!

It's just the Sizzix Pillow Box folded on the long score lines!

This card really shows off the new "Square Lattice" Textured Embossing Folder (Mini pg. 24) used with the "Baskets & Blooms" Bigz Sizzix die.

No matter how I tried this butterfly did not want to have color on it.  I just really liked the dark silhouette better!

 

I've seen the torn cardboard on various blogs and it looks so cool. I think it would be the perfect accent on a Father's Day card!
